call a brotha…

I don’t know about you guys but when I get home I love to be able to change into some loose shorts and just lounge. To help me get into the “I’m at home” mode I’ve been wanting to buy a pair of Warriors swingman shorts in the home colors. I told myself that I would only buy the home colors or no purchase. Just my luck, I have yet to find a pair.

As a little background swingman gear is a cheaper version of the on the court gear. For those that don’t want to pay 150+ for shorts or 350+ for a jersey. They’re a good substitute though, everything is sewn on instead of silk screened.

I went on the warriors store and to my surprise the AUTHENTIC court shorts are on sale AND they’re the same price as the swingmans! OMGOSH!!! I click on them and bummer…

Got this ebay auction sent to me from Jerry…That’s right, you too can own a replica of airwolf!

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t the biggest airwolf fan. I was more of a knight rider and street hawk kid. I did however know that if you heard the air wolf theme music, something was blowing up…

a do run run ron

Posted in back in the day, family & friends, games on May 14, 2008 by dlaguinto

Played my first online mario kart race with ronnie the other night. Pretty fun for sure! I kept getting second but I’m a little skeptic cause the guy in front of me would pull so hard and have a major gap between us.

Ronnie is probably one of the few people that I know that has had a 240 as long as I have. I met the ronsta (a long with the rest of the fatlace/360 crew) during the “golden age” of “the scene” (I’ll define the golden age in another post) while hanging out at the almighty mecca graphics on eastmore. That’s way back…

In any case, if anyone wants to hook up for a late night session hit me up at 0302.0468.7119 and leave your friend code here…

Despite Donovan’s Rockies falling to 0-12, Donovan had a really good game last night. His pitching was ok but there was one out he made that was RIDICULOUS. It was against Evan who hit a shot right back to the mound and Donovan grabbed it like it was nothing. Another inning he played 2nd base and a ball was hit down the first base line. The first base AND the pitcher run for the ball leaving first open. Donovan sees it, runs over to cover and they were able to make the play at first.

His last at bat, I see the pitch coming in a little high and think…don’t swing. He does and gets absolutely all of it sending it deep to center field. Deep meaning well over the center fielders and to the fence. Center just happened to be his good friend Jonathan who is probably one of the two fastest kids on the field and is able to hold Donovan to a triple. Anyone else playing center and it would’ve been a 1 in the HR column.

It’s relieving that Donovan is doing well despite the team record. With the All Star selection this Friday, a lot of the other coaches have been dropping hints to Donovan but we don’t want to get our hopes up till we get the call. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t praying for it though.

After the game we decided to stay to watch the next one that happened to be Donovan’s last coach, Jeff. I also wanted to get a sense of the talent at this level since Donovan really wants to move up. All I can say is, what a difference a year can make!!! We only stayed a half hour and they were able to move through 3 innings. It was a really good game to watch. I think if Donovan really wants to move up next year he’s going to have to really come with it over the summer and fall ball. I’m leaning towards holding him one more season after seeing that game.

sf giants & dry bear night

Posted in family & friends, games on May 13, 2008 by dlaguinto

Tomorrow at pacbell, the Giants are hosting the 1st annual Filipino Heritage Night. Representing for my people I’ll be out with the fam in the special “Filipino Section” aka, nose bleed city, to watch the game. I’m digging the shirts they’re giving away. Should be fun.

Three things I expect to experience while at the game:
A random cock fight to break out
Over hearing a conversation about Manny Pacquiao
Someone wanting to pass the vinegar

On a different note, the term Dry Bear came about after telling Mike and Jerry the joke:

Three bears are in a car going over a bridge. The car falls over, which bear doesn’t get wet?

*thick filipino accent* the dry bear

From that moment on, the term dry bear has been synonymous with filipino in our group of friends. For example, Daly City has a lot of dry bears…

I get home with the kids yesterday and before going up I walk to the street to check the mail. I see a thick envelope and think, finally, my Jabbawockeez shirt I ordered over a month ago is finally here!

I see the return address and it’s from mainstream productions. “Oh cool, it’s my free shirt for registering early!” I don’t know why but I was expecting the kind of shirt that you put away for sleeping or changing oil in but when I opened it I was surprised to see this…

It’s the black version of the shirt Ken was wearing in my previous post. Pretty cool, printed on Gildan and the screen is thick. Thanks Ken!

On another note, I’m still waiting for my Jabbawockeez shirt guys…

built like a tank

Posted in car related on May 12, 2008 by dlaguinto

Not that I have any money to do so but I’ve been thinking a lot about the engine bay of the 240 lately. The motor is out right now and I’m in debate on whether to paint the bay before putting it back in. I think we all know how that battle is going to turn out. I’ve also been re-evaluating the set up and what I don’t have that I may want to buy. One thing I’ve always wanted since the car was black, auto and KA powered, was a JUN surge tank.

The first time I laid eyes on this piece was in an option magazine where JUN introduced their hyper lemon drag S14. I fell in love instantly.

Put aside the obvious question of actual fuctionality for my needs, how devastating would it be to see that in my bay?

I use to have a greddy intake manifold but replaced it with a stock one to help throttle response. I remember how excited I was to get it on but when it was on, I didn’t love it. I kept thinking, man…what if I had the JUN. So now that the SR will be pretty much to where I’ve wanted it, It may be time to shell out some clams and make the last big purchase under the hood.

Here’s a pic of one that Garage Mak made for the S14/15 DET’s…guess I’m SOL.

So while out on a Target run with Janet on Friday I made my way over the magazine section. Picked up the latest Import Tuner and flipped through the pages.

I stopped on a blue civic hatchback and thought, is that Leonard’s daily driver? Sure enough it was. Another member of the Ex-Hokori crew, Leonard’s pair of EK hatchs have been making A LOT of noise as of late.

He has a hot pink candy EK for show and the latest feature is on his baby blue daily driver. Both have K20 swaps, both are super clean and both have taken home Nisei honors.

Always good to see the friends making it happen! Pick up a copy, it’s the one with Ken’s drift tc on the cover…
