Despite Donovan’s Rockies falling to 0-12, Donovan had a really good game last night. His pitching was ok but there was one out he made that was RIDICULOUS. It was against Evan who hit a shot right back to the mound and Donovan grabbed it like it was nothing. Another inning he played 2nd base and a ball was hit down the first base line. The first base AND the pitcher run for the ball leaving first open. Donovan sees it, runs over to cover and they were able to make the play at first.
His last at bat, I see the pitch coming in a little high and think…don’t swing. He does and gets absolutely all of it sending it deep to center field. Deep meaning well over the center fielders and to the fence. Center just happened to be his good friend Jonathan who is probably one of the two fastest kids on the field and is able to hold Donovan to a triple. Anyone else playing center and it would’ve been a 1 in the HR column.
It’s relieving that Donovan is doing well despite the team record. With the All Star selection this Friday, a lot of the other coaches have been dropping hints to Donovan but we don’t want to get our hopes up till we get the call. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t praying for it though.
After the game we decided to stay to watch the next one that happened to be Donovan’s last coach, Jeff. I also wanted to get a sense of the talent at this level since Donovan really wants to move up. All I can say is, what a difference a year can make!!! We only stayed a half hour and they were able to move through 3 innings. It was a really good game to watch. I think if Donovan really wants to move up next year he’s going to have to really come with it over the summer and fall ball. I’m leaning towards holding him one more season after seeing that game.
